CanConnect and Custom Case

CanConnect is a simple, secure video calling app that helps people with physical or cognitive challenges stay in touch with family, friends, and caregivers. Users just tap a photo on an iPad or Android device to start a call, making it easy to use. When paired with a Custom Case that limits the device to the app, CanConnect turns a tablet into a single-purpose tool, ideal for seniors, people with dementia, or anyone who finds regular tablets challenging to use. CanAssist at the University of Victoria created CanConnect to help people stay connected and reduce social isolation as well as increase safety and independence as seniors age in their own home. With funding from the BC Ministry of Health, the technology was made available to seniors living independently, giving them a simple way to connect with the people who matter most.

CanAssist first built an earlier version using Skype, before Skype was purchased by Microsoft and its third party developer program ended. Please note: CanConnect is not available for public download.
