Disability benefit guidance

We can assist individuals in getting assistance, including federal and provincial benefits and tax credits. The circumstances that make people eligible can also be barriers to navigating how to access this assistance, and we're here to guide!
Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
How it can help: It may reduce tax for you or an eligible supporting family member. Approval is required for the Canada Disability Benefit.
Who it's for: People whose disability has lasting effects on everyday activities, like walking or dressing, or who need treatment that supports a vital body function. Check the Canada Revenue Agency's detailed rules about the effects and how long they last.
Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)
How it can help: It provides monthly money for eligible adults aged 18 to 64. It doesn't reduce BC disability assistance.
Who it's for: Adults with DTC approval who meet rules about living in Canada for tax purposes and citizenship or immigration status. Payments depend on your income and, if applicable, your partner's income. Filing taxes is required.
BC disability assistance (PWD)
How it can help: It provides money for living costs and some health benefits. You need BC's Persons with Disabilities designation (PWD) and must meet financial and other rules.
Who it's for: People in BC who need financial support. BC uses "severe" in its rules. The usual assessment requires a condition expected to last at least two years that significantly limits daily activities, all the time or for extended periods that come and go. You must need equipment, significant help or supervision, or an assistance animal for those activities. Daily activities include meals, shopping and personal care. Mental health conditions are included
