AccessAbility
Week 2026

CanAssist, CARSA, University of Victoria

National AccessAbility Week is a big time for CanAssist at the University of Victoria! We're hosting some events at our office over the week:

Ball Launcher Demonstration

Monday, June 1st at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

We're about to launch the new & improved version of our Switch-Accessible Dodgeball Launcher, and you're invited to see it in action! This portable assistive technology opens up possibilities for inclusive sports and play, letting users adjust distance and fire straight shots or curveballs with the press of a button. ☄️ Come test it out for yourself and target your friends, rivals, or us!

Connected Generations

Tuesday, June 2nd at 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Join us for a relaxed afternoon of conversation, connection, and tech support. Bring any phone, tablet, laptop, or device you need help with, and University of Victoria students will be there to assist in a welcoming, judgement-free space. In return, students look forward to learning from the stories, experiences, and wisdom of older adults in our community. Your insights will help shape future programs and services for seniors. Plus, we'll have tea and cookies (not the kind of cookies websites ask you to accept or reject, the yummy ones)! 🍪

Inclusive Employers Tour

Thursday, June 4th at 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This event will bring together inclusive employers from the Job Journey program for a chance to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Meet our team, explore a selection of innovative technology projects we've developed, and enjoy a guided tour of our machine shop. We would also greatly value your feedback on the program, as well as any ideas or initiatives you would like to see implemented in the future.

CanAssist Open House

Thursday, June 4th at 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

We're all about opening doors, metaphorically and literally! Everyone's invited to tour our facilities, see demonstrations of assistive technology, and learn about new and exciting innovations in the works to help people with disabilities thrive in school, achieve their employment goals, and support their health and well-being. It's also an opportunity to network with CanAssist staff, UVic researchers, and colleagues in the assistive technology and health-tech sectors. Join the party! 🎉
