Mariel Macasaquit

Special Projects Graduate Practicum Student

Mariel is a graduate practicum student and supporting the Special Projects Team. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Child, Youth, Family and Community Studies program here at UVic. Her research focus is about implementing trauma- and violence-informed childcare among early childhood educators in Canada.

Mariel’s work as an early childhood educator for more than a decade has given her a wealth of experience and knowledge working with young children and families. When she stepped into the role of an Aboriginal Supported Child Development Consultant, it broadened her capacity to see the power and possibilities of inclusion in a variety of childcare settings.

In her free time Mariel loves to read and she aims to contribute to the growing, exciting and critical conversations happening around inclusion in childcare!

I respectfully acknowledge that I am studying, working and living on the unceded and traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples (Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations) and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations (Tsartlip, Tseycum, Tsawout, and Pauquachin First Nations) on Coast Salish Land. As a settler and racialized immigrant, I recognize my roles and responsibilities to these lands. I am committed to doing good work through my early years practice.
