Walter is a 3rd year mechanical engineering student at Uvic doing a co-op with CanAssist. Tasked with creating assistive technologies beginning with mechanical design, prototyping and fabrication with the goal of safe, reliable and functional projects to help improve quality of life.

Walter has had different jobs over the years allowing him to gain many skills. Through his years of working at Alexander Super Abrasives as a machine operator, he brings valuable knowledge of the manufacturing processes. With these skills he can adapt and tackle challenges when they arise, helping to ensure workflow remains constant.

When not working, Walter can be found spending most of his time playing Basketball, Volleyball, working in the garden, tinkering with mechanical components, or playing videogames.

“The opportunity I was given to work for CanAssist was one I could not turn down. Having the chance to use the knowledge and experience I have gained to create assistive technologies to help elevate the quality of life for others. I am excited to see where this opportunity will take me moving forward!”

I live and work on the land of the lək̓ʷəŋən (the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations) and W̱SÁNEĆ (the Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum, and Malahat Nations) Peoples; my hosts and neighbours to whom I am grateful for allowing me as an uninvited guest. I acknowledge the systematic dismantling of their cultures by settlers and strive to earn reconciliation.
